Introduction to Natural Dyes for Textiles

This course provides an introduction to using natural dyes for dyeing cotton, silk and wool. Work through a series of dye sessions using easily available plants such as onionskins, carrot tops, berries and bark, and discover the effects of mordant. Small pieces of fabric as well as thread for embroidery can be used to dye in this workshop. Students are encouraged to make notes and record results to form their own sample dye notebook that can further work with natural dyes beyond the course.
