Nonsuch Singers was described by 'The Times' in March 2003 as "one of London's best chamber choirs" and is increasingly well-known for its wide-ranging, innovative programmes and communicative performances. With a repertoire encompassing works from the Renaissance to the present day, the choir performs regularly with many of the UK's leading ensembles and finest young soloists. Formed in 1986 by its Artistic Director, Paul Manley, Primavera, the Italian word for spring, reflects the joie de vivre of one of Britain?s finest chamber orchestras. Renowned for its polished style and committed performances, it comprises Britain?s most sought after chamber musicians. Primavera has performed at major British and European festivals including the Mdina Festival Malta, Laon in France, Ljubljana Festival in Slovenia, the Almera Festival in the Netherlands, and Sadurano, Emiliana Romagna and Parma Festivals in Italy. Other international connections included the Eurotunnel opening celebrations.
In London, Primavera has performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room, Blackheath Halls, St Martin-in-the-Fields St John?s, Smith Square and the Wigmore Hall. World ranking soloists such as Larry Adler, James Bowman, Michael Chance, Tracey Chadwell, Robert Cohen John Harle, Ilya Itin, Michele Petri, Robert Tear, and Raphael Wallfisch have appeared with the orchestra from its inception. Primavera?s first CD was released in 1990 - a recording of the Mendelssohn String Sinfonias. This was shortly followed by a further Mendelssohn CD, a collection of French and English music on Collins Classics, and, Echoes from Russia, an album of music by Arensky and Tchaikovsky available on Regis Records. On television, Primavera has broadcast live concerts for ZDF, the BBC and other networks in Britain and France. Commissioning and performance of new music is now a vital part of Primavera?s artistic policy with commissioned works from Gavin Bryars (The Porazzi Fragment 1998, Violin Concerto The Bulls of Bashan 1999), Paul Patterson (Cello Concerto 2003), and most recently at the Wigmore Hall, Philip Glass?s, Chaotic Harmony in 2006. Mozart: Venite, populi; James MacMillan: Factus est repente', 'Mitte manum tuam', 'Seinte Mari moder milde' from The Strathclyde Motets; Mozart: Serenata Notturna; James MacMillan: Changed; James MacMillan: Christus Vincit; Mozart: Magnificat; Mozart: Requiem.
