1959 was the year the students of William Dawes Elementary School buried a time capsule filled with their ideas of what the future might hold. Fifty years later in 2009 the capsule was uncovered and the contents shared amongst the pupils. Caleb Koestler subsequently receives a list of random numbers which hold a cryptic clue to the past, present and future. His father John is an astrophysics professor and cracks the code of fifty years worth of dates, death tolls and co-ordinates of every major disaster in perfect sequence. Two reluctant helpers in the form of Diana Wayland and Abby, the daughter and granddaughter, of the now deceased author of the prophecies join the cause and stop the next sequence of disasters in the list.
