1940s glamour returns to London's Theatre Royal Haymarket as Sean Mathias directs Samuel Adamson's dazzling new production of Breakfast at Tiffany's.

The play is a stage adaptation of the 1958 novella by celebrated American author Truman Capote, which found fame as a 1961 film starring Audrey Hepburn and Mickey Rooney.

Star of stage and screen Anna Friel takes on the central role of Holly Golightly, with Joseph Cross as William "Fred" Parsons.

Listen out for the famous song Moon River, which won Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer one of the film's two Oscars.

Breakfast at Tiffany's will be an unashamedly glamorous evening of wit, style, tenderness and music, with 1940s New York as a backdrop.

The play is set in New York City, 1943. William "Fred" Parsons, a struggling young writer from Louisiana, meets the charming yet mysterious Holly Golightly.

Like everyone else, Fred falls in love with Holly. As Europe is gripped by war, Holly has to choose between playboy billionaire Rusty – future president of Brazil Jose – and penniless Fred. Just as she begins to fall in love, her past catches up with her.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Cast: Anna Friel and Joseph Cross

Anna Friel is an award-winning actress. Her theatre work includes Lulu at the Almeida Theatre and Patrick Marber's Closer on Broadway. Friel's starring role in TV's Pushing Daises earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Television Series.

American actor Joseph Cross is best known for his roles in Running with Scissors (as Augusten Burroughs), war drama Flags of our Fathers and, most recently, Gus Van Sant's Milk, in which he starred opposite Sean Penn. Cross made his stage debut in 2003 at the Williamstown Playhouse in John Guare’s Landscape of the Body.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is the second production in Sean Mathias' season as Artistic Director of Theatre Royal Haymarket Season. His opening play was the highly acclaimed production of Waiting for Godot, starring Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart and Simon Callow.

Mathias says, "I have long been an avid fan of Capote and I hope that my production of his dazzling novella Breakfast at Tiffany's will be an unashamedly glamorous evening of wit, style, tenderness and music, with the dynamic 1940s New York as a backdrop."

The proceeds received by The Truman Capote Literary Trust from the production will be used to fund university scholarships in creative writing.
