Paintings & Drawings

Paintings in the Victoria and Albert Museum's collection include superlative holdings of British watercolours, pastels and portrait miniatures as well as over 2,000 British and European oil paintings. The collections were largely formed from a series of gifts from 19th-century collectors and offer a unique insight into Victorian picture-collecting practice. As well as videos on subjects such as block-printed wallpaper and painting portrait miniatures, this section includes interactives from the British Galleries which allow you to explore two paintings in detail.
