In 1601, Shah 'Abbas walked from Isfahan to Mashhad. Caroline Mawer, Birkbeck, has retraced the route using vehicles and walking significant sections to try to discover how long the journey might have taken, giving fascinating insights into medieval travel along the Persian Silk Road, and into the itinerant court of Shah 'Abbas.
