Non-places

More and more of our lives is now spent in supermarkets, airports and hotels, in front of computers or at cash machines. This colonisation of our world by non-places, Marc Auge argues, changes us in subtle ways. How do we perceive non-places, and how does that perception change ourselves and those places? Auge is director of studies at the Ecole des hautes etudes in sciences sociales in Paris and author of 'Non-places: Introduction to an Anthropology of Supermodernity'. Tonight he is in conversation with Stephen Bayley, founder of the Design museum and architecture and design correspondent at The Observer.
