The Reader

Michael Berg falls in love with an older woman called Hanna Schwitz and ends up reading her great works of literature during their summer affair until she mysteriously disappears. Eight years later she reappears in a Nazi war tribunal and Michael watches her obstinately refuse to defend herself. Michael soon realises that he might be guarding her most intimate secret and to Hanna it is emotionally far greater than any war crime she is accused of committing.
