The Fats Waller Anniversary Concert

The musical legacy of Fats Waller is enormous, and these popular tribute performances celebrate his life and legacy. Gifted with a faultless piano technique, Waller wrote over 500 beautifully crafted compositions and many of these feature in this performance, including 'Ain't Misbehavin', 'Honeysuckle Rose', 'I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter', 'My Very Good Friend The Milkman', 'Your Feet's Too Big' and 'The Joint Is Jumpin'. Keith Nichols, an authority on Fats Waller and exponent of the Harlem Stride style of piano playing, hosts the programme and delivers vocals and an amusing narration, describing Fats Waller's larger-than-life personality and natural gift for timeless comedy. He is joined by Roy Williams (trombone), John Barnes (tenor sax, clarinet), Jim Douglas (guitar), Peter Morgan (double bass) and Laurie Chescoe (drums), and Enrico Tomasso (trumpet). The Fats Waller Anniversary concerts were conceived by the late Jack Sudic, who established these performances as regular events since the 1980s. Jack's son Mark continues to promote the concerts featuring some of the finest British jazz musicians.
