Photography: Critical and Analytic Theories

During the twentieth century photography was analysed and discussed according to concepts provided by several fields, including cultural theory, politics, philosophy, and semiotics. This course offers an introduction to some of the main ways of thinking about photography from the interwar period to postmodernism. Each week we will look at a specific writer of photographic theory and/or history and examine visual examples in the light of their concepts.
