Bauhaus: Art as Life at Barbican Art Gallery

Still an icon of design innovation almost 80 years after its closure, the Staatliches Bauhaus continues to show its influence on the world, even today. Existing in three German cities during its lifetime (Weimar, Dessau and Berlin), it's helpful to think of the place as less of a school, more a unique momentary melting-pot of some of the greatest Artists and Architects of the early 20th century. This exhibition at the Barbican Gallery (the biggest in the UK in over 40 years), aims to delve into the themes at the heart of the place: art, culture, life, politics and society, and the changing technology of the age, and includes works by both the famous and lesser-known Bauhaus teachers and students who passed through its doors, during its short, 14 year lifespan.

Featured Artist Josef and Anni Albers, Marianne Brandt, Marcel Breuer, Walter Gropius, Johannes Itten, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Hannes Meyer, László Moholy-Nagy, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Gunta Stölzl
