Walk this way – the Design Museum hosts a Christian Louboutin exhibition.
Christian Louboutin at the Design Museum
The Design Museum's Christian Louboutin exhibition offers a unique retrospective of the famed shoe designer's work and a preview of the next collection.
Using items from Christian Louboutin's personal archive the exhibition will showcase his designs, methods and inspirations over the past 20 years. The museum promises not only a dramatic exhibition environment but also an in-depth examination of his design process, taking visitors from the initial design and prototyping stage right through to production and presentation.
Other features that make this well worth a visit include a display of the shoes behind Fetish, the 2007 photographic exhibition made in collaboration with David Lynch, and the exclusive range of Louboutin merchandise on sale in the museum shop.
About Christian Louboutin
For many people, Louboutins are more than just shoes. They can be art, symbols of empowerment or instruments of repression, and the sight of their distinctive red soles can inspire both lust and envy. One only needs to look at Danielle Steel – who allegedly has more than 6,000 pairs – to understand the passion that these shoes can inspire.
Christian Louboutin was born in Paris and rebelled at an early age. He had roles in films, a job at the Folies Bergères and travelled the world before returning to his native city and focusing on his passion for shoes.
In 1991 Louboutin set up his own company and, with early customers such as Princess Caroline of Monaco and Catherine Deneuve, it soon became a desirable luxury brand.
Credited with helping to re-popularise the stiletto in the 1990s, he is now world-famous for his towering heels and current clients include celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Victoria Beckham and Madonna.
He recently told Grazia magazine that "High heels are pleasure with pain. If you can't walk in them, don't wear them."
