The Conquering Hero at Orange Tree Theatre

'The Conquering Hero' is a 1923 play by Allan Monkhouse, the author of 'Mary Broome', seen at the venue last year. The drama is set in a military family on the eve of the outbreak of the First World War. As the war approaches, the family is torn by the differing attitudes to the coming conflict. Conscientious objections to war are not easy principles to espouse at such a time and in such a family. This powerful and moving play by is directed by Auriol Smith.
