Queen Elizabeth II by Cecil Beaton: A Diamond Jubilee Celebration

To celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the V&A is putting together an exhibition of 60 photographs by royal photographer, Cecil Beaton (1904-1980), depicting the Queen and the Royal Family both at home and on official occasions.

Presenting highlights of the V&A’s archive of royal portraits by Beaton, the exhibition will show elegant and highly-staged photographs such as Queen Elizabeth II in Coronation Robes (1953) alongside charming and informal moments, including an intimate portrait of Princess Elizabeth in 1950 with the newly born Princess Anne.

The exhibition will examine Beaton’s working methods, styles and approaches and includes accounts from his personal diaries which reveal details of many sittings.
