David Hockney: A Bigger Picture at the Royal Academy

London's Royal Academy welcomes in 2012 with an exhibition dedicated to Yorkshire-born painter, draughtsman, photographer, printmaker and stage designer David Hockney.

David Hockney: A Bigger Picture focuses on Hockney's landscape work, and features new, specially-commissioned paintings inspired by the Yorkshire landscape.

The exhibition also includes older landscape works, as well as drawings and film.

About Artist David Hockney

David Hockney was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, and studied at Bradford School of Art from 1953 to 1957.

In 1959 he headed south to the Royal College of Art, and the following year took part in the influential Young Contemporaries exhibition for the first time. When he graduated in 1962 he was awarded the Royal College of Art gold medal.

Hockney moved to Los Angeles in 1963, where he began his series of swimming pool paintings.

Since then he has worked in many different media and fields, including stage design, photography and, more recently, iPad and iPod drawings.
