Road Cycling at London 2012

One of four cycling events at the London 2012 Olympic Games (the others being BMX, track and mountain biking), the road cycling event brings together some of the world's best on two-wheels.

Road cycling is split into two events. The gruelling Road Race is a head-to-head battle over a course measuring 250km for men and 140km for women. The Time Trial is a fight against the clock with the quickest sprinter crowned Olympic champion.

Britain's women were successful in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, with Nicole Cooke winning the Road Race and Emma Pooley claiming silver in the Time Trial.

There was controversy in the men's Road Race as silver medalist Davide Rebellin was later stripped of his medal after testing positive for banned substances.
