Rhythmic Gymnastics at London 2012
One of two women-only events at the London 2012 Olympic Games (the other being Synchronised Swimming), Rhythmic Gymnastics is a test of rhythm and grace as competitors perform a routine to music.
Rhythmic Gymnastics includes both individual and team events, where the competitors battle it out to win the two gold medals up for grabs.
During their routines, the gymnasts also use props such as ribbons, balls or hoops to enhance their performance.
Rhythmic Gymnastics at the Olympic Games
At the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, the competition was dominated by the former Soviet block countries.
Russia won both golds (their only gold medals in the gymnastics events) while Belarus gained one silver and a bronze, and the Ukraine a bronze.
