Hairspray: Hot Tunes and High Barnets

It's the musical with everything – big tunes, big laughs, big attitudes and big hair!
The year is 1962 and Tracy Turnblad is the unlikely toast of Baltimore after winning a competition to star on TV dance programme "The Corny Collins Show".
But can this beefy babe upset the odds by defeating the reigning dancing queen, winning the man of her dreams and turning the show's racist attitude on its head – all without upsetting her hairdo?
Hairspray: An Award-winner
Based on John Waters' smash-hit 1988 film, this Tony award-winning musical features an original score by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman, who co-wrote the songs for South Park: Bigger, Longer And Uncut.
Phill Jupitus, Belinda Carlisle and Sharon D Clarke

The show stars Phill Jupitus, Belinda Carlisle and Sharon D Clarke alongside newcomers Chloe Hart and Liam Tamne. And we think you'll agree; they "gel" beautifully...
This is Phill Jupitus' first appearance in a West End musical, and certainly his first as a woman! He plays the flowery, flouncy, larger-than-life leading lady Edna Turnblad. It's certainly a change from his usual stints as a broadcaster and panel-show regular.
1980s pop star Belinda Carlisle plays the evil Velma Von Tussle, glamorous white supremacist and controller of the local TV station.
Sharon D Clarke has appeared in Chicago, We Will Rock You, The Lion King and in panto at the Hackney Empire. However, she's probably best known as Dr Lola Griffin in BBC hospital drama Holby City. Sharon has a wonderful voice and a great stage presence; she's a sure-fire hit as Motormouth Maybelle, celebrity DJ and owner of Baltimore's biggest set of lungs!
