Ever finished a great book and wished you had someone to discuss it with?
Or wondered whether anyone else was as confused by the plot as you were?
Then why not join a book club in London.
It's the perfect way to meet likeminded people who share your enthusiasm for reading.
Choosing a London Book Group

One of the best places to start is your local library as most run their own reading groups.
As well as being able to borrow books for free, they can help you with book recommendations and finding out about other local literary events.
There are Central London groups including one at the Southbank Centre, and others all over London.
You can find a comprehensive list of London book clubs at www.bookgroup.info.
Specialist Reading Groups

Most reading groups are democratic and members suggest or vote for books.
There are also many special interest groups. So if you particularly like crime or historical novels, you can join a book club which reads one genre exclusively.
Library book groups even include one dedicated to comic books, and one to chick lit!
Book clubs have also been set up by different community groups in London including a feminist book group and gay book group.
What Happens at a Book Club?
Book clubs tend to meet monthly. The chosen book is set in advance. All group members read it and then meet at an agreed venue (usually a pub or coffee shop) to discuss the book.
Don't be afraid to join in – no one is expecting a thesis and the discussions are fun and informal.
