Avatar is the story of an ex-Marine who finds himself thrust into hostilities on an alien planet filled with exotic life forms. An Avatar is a human mind in an alien body and the ex-Marine finds himself torn between two worlds in a desperate fight for his own survival and that of the indigenous people.

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment's annual study day focuses on Beethoven's Symphonies. The 11am session looks at the historical context of the symphonies - the events, politics and culture of Beethoven's time, before going on to look at how Beethoven's music responded to the events around him. The 2pm session examines how a period instrument ensemble such as OAE performs Beethoven's music as well as looking at other approaches to it, and day ends with an in-depth analysis of Symphony No.3, Eroica. The morning session is suitable for everyone, no musical knowledge required, while for the afternoon session some musical knowledge would be beneficial.

Rarely screened Russian silent thriller set in the seamy Jewish underworld of Odessa in the 1920s. Murder is a way of life for Benya and his gang. They profit from their criminal activities until the Russian Revolution when the local commissar gives them special responsibilities, making them part of the revolutionary movement. But this new post backfires for Benya as he finds himself ensnared in a Bolshevik trap.

On honeymoon in Hungary, Joan and Peter Allison share their train compartment with Dr Vitus Verdegast, a man who is returning to the remains of the town he defended before becoming a prisoner of war. When their hotel-bound bus crashes in a mountain storm, the travellers seek refuge in the home of famed architect Hjalmar Poelzig. Mysterious events occur at the mansion, including a game of chess in which they are playing for Allison's life.

In an attempt to teach them morals, he goes there to confront them. But when he sees Lola, he fully understands his pupils and the next night he does not sleep at home.
