Futuristic technologies displayed in the exhibition include a swimming camera pill designed to help doctors make diagnoses and the Sensium 'Digital Plaster' developed to support nursing staff and allow patients greater independence by monitoring them from their own homes. The exhibition also asks whether science fiction reflect fact, or if scientists are inspired by the representation of medical robots in films, books and comics. It will feature some famous medical robots from the world of science fiction, from the 1930's 'Psychophonic Nurse' to rare Japanese manga by Osamu Tezuka, and Britain's own 2000AD.

Slavoj Zizek: First as Tragedy, Then as Farce
Free
Lecture25 November 2009
London School of Economics WC2A 2AE[map]
Slavoj Zizek argues that the neoliberalism died twice: first as a political doctrine in the tragedy of the attacks of 9/11, then its farcical collapse as an economic theory when the meltdown at the end of 2008 brought an end to the utopia of global market capitalism. Has this crisis now offered a vital opening for the left to seize the reins of politics and the state? Slavoj Zizek, the Slovenian philosopher and cultural critic, is a professor at the European Graduate School, International Director of the Birkbeck Institute for the Humanities, University of London, and a senior researcher at the Institute of Sociology, University of Ljubljana.
