Talib Kweli means literally student of truth, which is a fitting name given his background. He was brought up amongst an intellectual family with his mother and father both being professors of English and sociology respectively. His background lends itself to raps about life growing up in Brooklyn, NY and cultural observations. Kweli has worked with Hi-Tek and Mos-Def on collaborative albums.

'The Tamer Tamed' is the sequel to Shakespeare's 'The Taming of the Shrew', in which the women get their revenge on the newly remarried Petruchio. Written by John Fletcher, the Bard's collaborator on 'Henry VIII', 'Two Noble Kinsmen' and 'Cardenio', the play combines moments of high and low comedy with some powerful speeches in this timeless tale about the battle of the sexes.

100 Years of Jazz at Radlett Centre
From

(CAD28.93)Jazz25 February 2012
Radlett Centre WD7 8HL[map]
This is the first time that a show encompassing the history of jazz from its beginnings in Ragtime through to the present day has ever been presented. The five multi-instrumental jazz virtuosi create a highly entertaining journey through the decades taking in everything from New Orleans to Be Bop, Swing to Latin, Hot to Cool, from Chicago and New York to around the world. An A to Z of jazz’s biggest names from Louis Armstrong to Joe Zawinul live again in the ensemble’s brilliant recreations. The music is interspersed with fascinating stories from the music’s history as well as the inimitable humour of the band’s musical director Pete Long. Listening to this remarkably versatile small band of musicians tackle the contemporary jazz of Abdullah Ibrahim with the same fervour and intensity as they produced for Miles Davis's "Kind of Blue" or Sidney Bechet's 1920s romping New Orleans jazz was a tremendous experience. Every era is evoked with complete conviction, during the musical equivalent of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, in which none of the major musical soliloquies gets left out.
