All of the Royal Coaches are kept here. I did not realize that the crown has its own coach. The Coronation Coach is unbelievable. This is truly a work of art. The combination of artwork, carvings and the gilding is a wonderful combination.

This is only a few minutes walk from Buckingham Palace and well worth it.

The Royal Mews is worth a visit for a few reasons, the first being that you can stand and stare at the impressive "golden coach" from just a few feet away, and the second is that it is still a working stable and has lots of trivia and appeal in that regard.

This was one of the few spots in London where I wasn't being elbowed and shoved by loads of tourists, and that made the experience very enjoyable. There is an audio guide included in the ticket price, which is nice because you can wander at your own pace and listen to tidbits like how the Queen names each and every horse in the stable. You can also take pictures here.

It is pretty open to the elements though in all but one spot, so plan accordingly once you see the weather forecast.

And if you plan on visiting Buckingham Palace, visit the Mews first as the exit from the Palace will require you to backtrack to the Mews.

Well worth the trip, if you love horses and are into all things royal. The coaches, horses, and stables are beautifully cared for, and the tour is very interesting (take the tour with a live tour guide rather than the audio tour if you have the opportunity, especially if you like to ask questions). We took this tour as part of the "Royal Day Out" package, which included tours of the Royal Mews, Queen's Gallery, and Buckingham Palace. A very pleasant way to spend the day, especially if the weather is nice.

boring

the royal mews unless your into horses is not worth the entrance fee walk around a cold and wet yard if the weathers against you. unpleasant stable staff and coachmen.

We just happened to stumble upon this sight and it turned out to be one of my favorite memories in London. The Royal Mews are the royal horse stables for Buckingham Palace. It is located behind the palace and is a nice thing to see after viewing the changing of the guard. You get to see the horses (unless they are out being exercised) in their stalls- they are gorgeous Grey Windsors. You can also see the carriages used for weddings (ie the carriage that Diana Spencer rode in to St. Paul's) and coronations. They also have one of the Queen's Phantom Rolls Royce cars on display. This tour was very interesting to me because it was a refreshing break from viewing items from centuries ago. These horses, carriages and cars are in use today which made it interesting. It was like exploring through the Queen's garage! I highly recommend this especially if you like horses.
