Musuem is actually about 3/5th Winston Churchill museum vs War Rooms
You are taken into the actual war rooms underground where many meetings took place in WWII. I feel that most of the museum is dedicated to the life of Winston Churchill. There are a collection of his personal belongings and snippets of him speaking. Although the Churchill museum section is a bit confusing to navigate it is informative and interesting.
The audio guide gives some additional information and insight.
I would've like to learn more about the scrambling used for the transcontinental phone that linked to the US. I thought the audio guide said I would learn more about it but we never did. Also the enigma machine, while displayed, was not explained in enough detail for my liking.
A must-see during any visit to London
This has to be one of the most realistic "museums" I have ever been to; the only thing missing is the smoke of Mr. Churchill's cigar.
The audio guide is free with your paid admission and you can complete the whole tour in about two hours. Information here is from the serious to the whimsical, focusing not only on the historical background of the Blitz but the personalities behind it as well.
This is one attraction that truly has to be seen to be experienced, reading books and watching DVDs just won't cut it.
Don't leave London without a visit.
One of the best museums we visited
The Cabinet War Rooms are fascinating; learn what Winston Churchill's secretary thought about taking dictation from him, and imagine a time when the leaders of Britain expected invasion any day.
The Churchill Museum is excellent - not organized chronologically but in a much better fashion. We (parents and teenaged son) spent 2 1/2 hours there and could have spent much more.
For anyone except small children, this should be a valuable and interesting experience.
An amazing time capsule
Hard to believe that this fascinating piece of history sat closed off to the world for nearly 40 years, until it was finally opened as a museum in the mid-eighties. An underground complex that housed Windton Churchill, his cabinet members and a staff of near 500, this bunker was the same haven for British leadership during the German Blitz in WWII. From bedrooms and kitchens to the eye-opening map room and meeting rooms, this museum details life underground while Nazi bombs fell overhead. Complete with an audio tour, the 60-90 minutes spent here is definately worthwhile.
Even if you just are slightly interested in WWII
This was great. A little pricey on the American Dollar, but well worth it. It was truly like travelling back in time. Much of the place is kept similar to what it was like in the 1940s -- complete with the Trans-Atlantic Phone, Churchill's Room, his kitchen, and the war rooms. Afterwards, there is a pretty extensive Churchill Museum detailing his life. The place is a very good size, and when we went they gave a student discount. It wasn't too crowded, as we went in the morning.
