Tate Modern

LOVE IT or at least makes you talk about it...
I LOVE the Tate Modern! I been there twice and it was totally worth it both times. First, you might not like modern art but it is a great conversation piece (my 3 yr old could do that!). Second, most of it is FREE! The only part you have to pay for is the special shows. The benefit of paying is that they are less busy. The free rooms are packed full of screaming kids. Third, the food is pretty good so when you get tired, grab a banana bread, some water and enjoy the view. Finally, the store is pretty good. You could spend quite a bit of time in the store alone.
The bad parts are, no photography and people seem to enjoy bringing their screaming kids.
Question mark
I know that not everyone will like modern art and that person I suppose- is me. I came to this museum because it had a late closing time (10pm).. otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. How can these paintings and figures be worth money? My 10 year old cousin can make better "art" by accident. I couldn't help but laugh at most of the exhibits and cringe at the room where the artist used real animal blood to paint a canvas.
Free Guided Tours Enhance Experience
I went to the Tate Modern yesterday. I am so glad we joined up the free guided tours they offered at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Had I known how helpful the tours would be, I would have gone earlier in the day for the 10 and 11 o'clock tours for the two other galleries. I now know what to look for in these art forms that had quite escaped me before. The Soviet propaganda poster exhibit was especially intriguing, and opened a window to what life must have been like in a country where information was so tightly controlled.
Lunch in the restaurant on the 7th floor was lovely, but to get a seat next to the window, I advise booking a reservation in advance.
Thought-Provoking but Emotionally numb.
Well well well, The Tate Modern. I suppose the best complement i can give it is that it has scrambled my brain more than any other gallery or museum I've ever been to. The British and Natural History Museums are two of the most fascinating experiences you're likely to see. Although I am far from being an art critic most art galleries are something that even I can appreciate.
Well what a shock i was in for. Walking from room to room, seeing original Picasso's, Monet's and Mondrion's but yet still not quite grasping the beauty of the art. Huge canvases that are purposely vague and meaningless, but yet somehow visually quite attractive. Some art works I have to concede are technically brilliant. but yet the overall image is so basic and unstimulating.
They say that the most ingenious ideas are the ones that seem obvious later- but so much of this work takes basic (or absurd) to a whole new level. The moment it clicked for me that this wasn't my cup of tea was when i walked into a room filled with nothing more then a wooden crate. I couldn't help but laugh.
But the fasinating thing is visiting this museum cannot help but make you wonder if it's you or them thats a few screws short. Much of this art seems to be a very personal affair that the public could not understand? Or art that is 99% about viewer interpretation. But When I go to a gallery I want to be plugged to somebody else's creativity, not my own. Although the purists would say thats excactly arts about- personal interpretation.
So in summary go and visit it if you have a few hours spare, more to baffle you then amaze you. And by time you get home you'll probably looking for a sign next to the toilet door telling you it's significance in popular culture.
don´t waste too much time in this museum
it has some interesting exhibitions but compare to the rest of the museums of london, it´s nothing........so don´t spend too much time inside it: enter, look around, take a few pictures and go to saint paul cathedral!!! it´s near and it´s much better!
