I read the reviews on here, and so I was somewhat unsure about whether I would enjoy my visit. I was pleasantly surprised!

I had a voucher that had been given to me for my birthday and I phoned up to book it in. I did have trouble trying to get through to the people, but luckily I spoke to another girl who was very helpful.

I came along, and on the day it was quite quiet. I found all the staff extremely helpful and knowledgeable, from those on the phone right to the ones who served me my wine (even if the tasting was small!)

It was definitely a fun introduction to wine, and I would recommend it to friends.

The self-guided "museum" tour is underwhelming. There are displays based on different wine-producing areas of the world. These are instructive only to someone new to wine. The tastings are fine but if that's your thing, better to go to a vineyard or even a liquor store having a tasting - you'd get more enthusiasm and information about the wine. Some of the tasting counters have corporate sponsors. I will say that the Bombay Sapphire gin bar made two of the best gosh-darn cocktails I've ever had.

I would recommend this attraction to someone who did not have to pay for it him/herself. If you are determined to go, look for coupons on lastminute.co.uk. You might consider spending your time and money at the very good affiliated restaurant Cantina Vinopolis instead.

i always use tripadvisor for hotels and advice, but didn't think of using it for vinopolis when i chose it to use my red letter day experience on (which i'd been given). but i wish i had because i can now see that others found the same as me and i could have done something else instead. i have no complaints about the restaurant, in fact it saved the day because the tour and wine tasting was extremely disappointing. i agree with other reviewers that the wine was ghastly, we even had to use the same glass all the time. i was expecting the opportunity to try some wine of a price that i'm not prepared to pay for a bottle of wine, but it was all cheap stuff and not even good/cheap. a free-for-all ensued to get served...if u must go, don't go on saturdays because its their busiest day apparently and u are packed in like sardines for the wine tasting seminar. all i could smell was the guy next to me's after shave when i tried to smell the bouquet of the wine. unorganised corporate event seems about right to me and i too ended up just wanting to get the whole thing over and done with and get out and go somewhere else. as i said i didn't have to pay for the meal or the tour, but if i had i would have seen the £20 each for the tour as a bit of a rip-off and wouldn't recommend it, unless you are one of a crowd of the hen/stag parties who go who have probably already spent several hours in the pub before arriving by the sounds of it and seem to enjoy Vinopolis because of it.

I attended Vinopolis as part of a celebration for my friend’s birthday in the hope of either learning something or at the very least getting drunk. Unfortunately neither was possible.

I had been wine tasting once before and was aware we might tread over some old ground, but despite this I was wholeheartedly disappointed. We were treated to the briefest of demonstrations on how to taste wine and what flavours we might generally expect (no detail on different grapes, or specialities of particular regions) before being ushered into the directionless wine tasting ‘tour’. I agree with the comment that it gave the impression more of a hastily arranged corporate event than a permanent museum.

However, the key gripe is clearly the value. For £22.50, one receives 5 basic wine tasting vouchers, 2 premium vouchers and one Bombay Saphire voucher. One voucher can be exchanged for what appeared to be a 25ml shot of wine, something I considered to be very poor value. I would have been happy to pay this amount had the options been truly excellent wines which are unavailable to the average consumer and worth substantially more, but the fact of the matter was that most could have been taken from a typical supermarket shelf. Even the premium bottles were not in excess of the £20 price bracket.

Add to this the scrummage to get to the limited number of servers and their inability or unwillingness to offer any insight, and I was left with little more than a desire to get round the corner to the nearest Southbank pub.

Pretentious and overpriced. Avoid.
