The Marquess Tavern

The Marquess Tavern is in a pretty location in leafy Canonbury. A great gastro pub serving fantastic sunday lunch. Huge portions but ideal for a lazy mothering sunday experience. I just wish we lived closer!

THe food was great. Had smoked mackarel pate which was truly awesome. Went Saturday evening and it was a bit loud but I guess you have to expect that. The waiters and waitresses were very friendly but sometimes the wait was too long.

A visit to the Marquess Tavern with friends was unusually a little disappointing, mainly due to the slection on the Prix Fixe menu, which was not as carefully thought out as has been in the past. Also the game terrine was very dry. Otherwise, food good, lovely wine, good service although a little slow at times. I will definitely be back for the brilliant value and usually excellent menu, but will put this visit down as a slight blip in the trend of outstanding evenings!
