I booked Museum Inn as i was having a night out and looking for nothing more than a cheap, clean bed for the night. As such it's fine.

The location can't be beat, it's right by the British Museum so great

for nights in Soho or the west end. Yes this place is tired and shabby but you won't find better value in the neighbourhood.

The beds were comfortable and clean with a decent sized locker beneath. I was up quite early for a shower and though the showers were clean i can't comment as to what they're like at busier times.

The only major problem i had was that there was no ladder to my bed so i had to use the one on the next bunk and launch myself across!

Breakfast isn't great with budget cornflakes/muesli, toast and stewed

tea (juice would have been nice) but for a quick bite it's fine.

This place isn't The Ritz but the rates reflect that.

The location can't be beat, and the staff is friendly, helpful and entertaining. The rooms are clean, as are the bathrooms (the showers were a bit gross, though - bring shower shoes), and overall its a pretty nice hostel. However, for the price, its a little too hostel-y. We expected a more hotel-like atmosphere, which is not at all what we got. Though, in London, everything is expensive, and I don't know if you'll really do much better.

stayed at astor museum inn for three nights and although the place appears very authentic and classic, many problems arose. First of all, the written reviews at hostelworld are all positive and don't represent peoples opinions as i posted a very negetive review which one will not find listed on their website. in fact, every hostel listed only has positive written reviews so don't believe them.

The location of astor museum is perfect , right by the british museum in central london, simply great. however

The problems with astor hostel start with breakfast; serve yourself (which is fine), only cereal and hamburger buns, wash your own dishes before and after u use em, dingy kitchen area too. the staff were somewhat helpful but not that much. Also must strip your own bed sheets and trek them down the street to front office upon check out. The building is very old (which is fine) but the floor boards are so very creaky that when people use the communal washroom it sounds like elephants walking up and down the stairs until about four in the morning. not a pleasant stay unless your a very deep sleeper and are used to this sort of thing.

in the end just don't believe hostelworld because they work in conjunction with the hostels to censor reviews to benefit the hostels.

I have returned from three good nights of sleep at the Astor Museum Inn Hostel, considering my own schedule making me wake up at 3:00 am the last night. In every case, I shared a room, of course (that is what a hostel is, you share a room, even if you are a group of five people). I appreciated the clean sheets and pillowcase one each bed because all hostels do not provide that service. I was taken care of very easily and clearly by several informative staff members. They even booked nights for me after the original booking of one night I had made. This made me change rooms each night, but a place was provided for my luggage to be kept safe each day when I wasn't needing it. The showers I took were warm and I did experience water being clogged in the bathroom on the third floor. The shower falls into a tub and the drain had hair clogged in it. This was not fun, but I then noticed after I was done and leaving, the staff member began to take over and clean, I didn't inspect it after cleaning, but sure it was cleaner than I left it. I was happy I could keep my own key, although I did have to leave a deposit of 10 pounds or my passport, but that was kept sfe and returned each day. THanks.

I stayed at the hostel about a week ago and have to say that I really enjoyed my time there. The facilities were good and the hostel seemed to be run in a very efficient way. The staff were really helpful- I mainly dealt with the english receptionist who was very friendly. I would definately recommend this hostel to anyone who is looking for a great location to stay in. I would be sure to stay here again when travelling back through London.
