Doesn't make me want to live under the sea...
Wheni think Aquarium I think of having a dry undersea adventure. All the other Aquariums I've been to made me wish I could live under the sea with all these beautiful exhibits and fish.
This Aquarium however was pretty dreary and plain. It felt like mostly underground, very dark. The only things I really enjoyed was the big circular tank with the sharks and the tank that you can stand around and look down on the fish, mostly rays and such are in this tank.
There were a few types of fish that I was impressed by, but all and all it was not very exciting. We went to this on the first day of our trip after the london eye voyage since it was so close, we took lots of pictures..i think it was because we were so excited to be in London on our Honeymoon...afterwards going through the pictures most of them got deleted and I found myself saying things like " omg god how many pictures of fish does one person need" "man the lighting is bad" and "what was wrong with us that we took over 100 pictures of boring fish"
I am going back in July 2009 with my little sister who is 12...we will probably take her here but only because its a 2 min walk from our hotel and it will kill a little time.
More like a dungeon!
We are a family who has travelled to most major cities and been to any aquarium or water attraction we come across and so thought we should take in this one for comparison. It was awful! You are underground the entire time, dark dingy crowded halls that wind around and then just when your claustrophobia has hit its peak and you are looking for the light at the end, you have to turn around and double back to get out. The displays were mediocre at best. It is definitely NOT worth the ticket price and is in our opinion is a must-avoid when going to London. Better takes? Don't miss the Churchill war museum and Imperial War Museum across the river. Both are among the best museums we have ever been to. And for the kids the natural history museum was a hit - you can easily spend a whole day there.
The Deep (Hull) is FAR better.
Went to the Aquarium late in the day so there was no queues and it was pretty empty (even though it was half-term). Managed to wangle cheap tickets too, so no complaints there.
We spent around 30 mins in there and it is a pretty boring place, no interactive stuff, not much information.
I live in Hull and The Deep is much much better than this.
Won't be visitng again.
Underwhelming rather than under the sea!
Admittedly we made a bit of a mistake taking our kids to the aquarium during half-term, but even if it had been less manic, the experience would still have been disappointing.
Queuing was a farce from the start. There were 2 separate queues, but it wasn't until you were already in one, and a fair way along that it said one was a fast-track queue for those who had bought online tickets, annual passholders, and groups. We should have been in the fast-track queue as we had merlin annual passes, but got in the other queue which was actually faster! I was quite glad not to be in the fast-track queue as a row about queue jumping broke out which was pretty unpleasant given that there were lots of children about.
On the plus side, there are a lot of fish, and some pretty big ones inlcuding sharks which the children love. On the down side, there seems to be a lot of wasted space (could there be more interactive displays or hands-on?). The only real info-panels I saw were dedicated to pollution in the Thames (apart from a couple on sharks).
If you have non-school age children, go during term-time when it's not so busy, and you can spend a bit more time looking in the tanks. Otherwise, the smaller children get bundled to one side by bigger children.
Waste of time...really
Please don't waste your time or money. This was so boring. Choose a better way to use your time and money!
