The Marquess Tavern is in a pretty location in leafy Canonbury. A great gastro pub serving fantastic sunday lunch. Huge portions but ideal for a lazy mothering sunday experience. I just wish we lived closer!

Ha a great birthday at the Marquess. The food was very good, if not spectacular - and there was lots of it! Had the leg of mutton for 3 which was very tender and could easily have fed six! (I had to pretend to have a dog so as to take the leftovers home for soup). Service was very good. And drinks prices were (slightly expensive) pub prices rather than restaurant prices which made it perfect for the occasion. Real ales good. Heartily recommended!

The Marquess Tavern is tucked away not far from Highbury & Islington tube. If from the road it looks like just another pub the dining area is surprisingly nice with a large skylight. The 2 courses for £12 were good unfussy gastropub fare and we came away happy and full.

A visit to the Marquess Tavern with friends was unusually a little disappointing, mainly due to the slection on the Prix Fixe menu, which was not as carefully thought out as has been in the past. Also the game terrine was very dry. Otherwise, food good, lovely wine, good service although a little slow at times. I will definitely be back for the brilliant value and usually excellent menu, but will put this visit down as a slight blip in the trend of outstanding evenings!

We often drink at The Marquess so thought we'd try the food. The ambience is always good, and the food was great, they didn't mind we turned up 20 mins late either. They had run out of venisson but the chef russled up a delicious venisson heart for me! Would definately recommend to anyone.
