The BFG Dream Jar Trail

In summer 2016, the streets of London were transformed with magical giant Dream Jars as part of The BFG Dream Jar Trail celebrating Roald Dahl’s 100th birthday and The BFG movie release. The “wondercrump” trail has ended and the Dream Jars have been auctioned, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for children’s charities.

What Was The BFG Dream Jar Trail?

The BFG Dream Jar Trail brought to life the long-held dreams of celebrities and artists with 50 Dream Jars across London and beyond over seven dream-filled weeks.

Crafted by arts and design specialists 3D Eye, each unique Dream Jar contained a “splendiferous” sculpture based on dream stories from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Stephen Hawking, the Delevingne sisters and many more. You can see all the Dream Jars below.

The Dream Jars could be found in iconic spots such as Tower Bridge, Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace; as well as in locations in Birmingham, Cardiff, Cheshire and Glasgow.

Download a map to find out where all the Dream Jars were. If you followed the trail, fill in a certificate to proudly record how many you found.

How Has The BFG Dream Jar Trail Helped Children?

After the trail, The Dream Jars were auctioned to raise money for Save the Children, which gives children in the UK and around the world the chance to dream big and fulfil their potential. Some Dream Jars were also sold to help the work of Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity.

In total, the trail raised more than £550,000 to help these good causes – how “gloriumptious”!

What is The BFG?

The beloved novel by Roald Dahl was published in 1982 and has been enchanting readers of all ages ever since.

Steven Spielberg brought The BFG to the big screen in 2016 in a blockbuster film starring Ruby Barnhill as Sophie and Oscar-winner Mark Rylance as The Big Friendly Giant. Together they embarked on a marvellous adventure, filled with “snozzcumbers”, Dream Jars, “frobscottle” and even a memorable meeting with The Queen! You can buy the DVD now.

The BFG Dream Jar Trail Would Like to Thank…

The BFG Dream Jar Trail could not have been brought to life without help from the artists and designers, Pickfords’ delivery team, online auctioneers Paddle8.com, Official Partner Unilever, the jar sponsors, Roald Dahl Literary Estate and Amblin Entertainment. A giant thank you also goes to the London boroughs, the authorities in Birmingham, Cardiff and Glasgow, plus the individual organisations that hosted the Dream Jars.

The trail may have ended but there are plenty more things to do in London and more dreams to discover with family-friendly activities.
