Family: Tips on Enjoying the Best of Spring in London

London has lots going on for children in the spring – make the most of the season with our top tips.

With the sun finally starting to shine, you can get out and about in London's parks and gardens, or find a few new arrivals at London Zoo. There are also lots of special events, such as Easter and St Patrick's Day to look out for.

Keep checking our What's On section for up-to-date listings of events in London.

London's Springtime Weather

Expect anything from clouds and rain to glorious sunshine in London in the spring – often in the same day!

Layers are the key, so make sure you take a light coat. It will keep you warm but won't weigh you down if you need to carry it.

Take an umbrella with you even if the weather looks nice – you never know when an April shower might occur.

It's a good idea to plan both indoor and outdoor activities so you can make the most of your day in London whatever the weather.

London's Gardens in the Spring

Kew Gardens is beautiful at any time of year, but don't miss it in the spring months. You'll see a stunning carpet of more than two million crocuses, as well as daffodils, bluebells and lots more.

There's plenty for kids to do including nature trails, an interactive play zone and even the chance to crawl through a badger sett! Pay a visit to Treehouse Towers, an outdoor play area suitable for three to eleven year olds. The equipment includes scramble nets, giant swings and a 20m long zip wire.

Best of all, if it does start to rain, you can duck into one of Kew's glasshouses.

For active families, take a boat out on The Serpentine lake at Hyde Park, or hire bikes in Richmond Park.

London's Wildlife in the Spring

You'll find cute baby animals all over London in the spring!

The London Wetland Centre will be welcoming a new batch of duckings, goslings and cygnets. Get closer with tours and other special spring events.

For some more exotic animal babies, pop to ZSL London Zoo and see their weird and wonderful new arrivals.

For some riverside wildlife, walk the Thames Path – it's the best time of year for nature-spotting.

Tour London in Spring

Spring is the perfect time to take a tour of London – the weather isn't too hot or cold, and the days are getting longer.

If little feet are getting a bit tired, why not hop onto a bus tour? The Original London Sightseeing Tour offers hop-on hop-off tours in a traditional red open-top bus. Children can also enjoy special commentary for kids and an activity pack.

For something different, take a Duck Tour. The kids will be amazed by the yellow DUKW crafts as they travel both in and out of the water.
