Guanabara

toptable.co.uk review of Guanabara

Reviewed by: toptable.co.uk

The true heart of Brazil is beating to an irresistible rhythm in central London and you will be dancing to it, we guarantee. The smart, chic bar, Guanabara is authentic in every detail, from the regional cuisine, to the chefs, to the very hot serving staff, to the amazing drinks. Cachaca drinks are flavoured with fruit juices flown in from Brazil. Try dishes of cassava chips, Bolinho de bacalhau (salt cod fishcakes), Manjubinha(whitebait marinated in lemon and coriander) and pud of guava cheesecake. Then get out on that huge circular dance floor with its live bands or DJs and dance til late.

  1. Forro Concert

    Recurring event

Featuring Zeu Azevedo and Forrodaki band Live. Forr mixes European, African and indigenous rhythms and has its own distinctive dance. Everyone has fun on Sundays, with seriously sexy dancing and much laughter and good times for everyone from complete beginners to those who already know how to shake it to that driving Forr beat.

  2. Recurring event

Guanabara presents Brazil Disco Funk, a new monthly Tuesday night, featuring the funkiest side of Brazilian and Latin dance music, Rio style. Direct from the heart of London's F-IRE Collective, Minibloco's sextet of multi-instrumentalists present old and new classics songs carefully cooked-up for the dance floor - delicately spiced with jazz and lashings of backbeat.

  3. Recurring event

Just as in Brazil a group of musicians gather in a circle around a table and play beautiful traditional Samba songs. The musicianship of the band 'Capital do Samba' is breathtaking, and the crowd always ends up dancing later in the evening.

  4. Recurring event

Expect the classic Bossa Nova tunes and other great treasures of our so-called MPB (Msica Popular Brasileira), with vocals destined to delight, acoustic guitar and the enchanting power of Brazilian percussion. Choro is Brazilian Jazz, many people say. A blend of different sounds using various types of guitars, flute and percussion; an instrumental, sweet and moody chamber music style that is popular and sophisticated at the same time.
