Orso Restaurant
About Orso Restaurant
Seeking Orso restaurant in the heart of London’s Covent Garden? Find the understated etched-glass doors on Wellington Street, then make your way down the terrazzo stairs and emerge center stage in a scene right out of 1950’s Milan. A zillion black and white photographs of film and theatre actors star the pale terracotta walls, colourful glazed Italian crockery gives a trattoria feel, and flattering lighting and soft colours give the theatrical vintage A-list clientele a gentle glow. A sparkling hubbub fills the air. Orso is a long-running, sophisticated hit serving rustic modern Italian cuisine with major buzz pre and post theatre. Truly Italian, from its ingredients to the waiters who serve it, the menu changes daily with the market. Orso’s wine list is entirely Italian except for the fizz. For lunch, pre-theatre dinner or supper after the show, this former orchid warehouse provides a delightful dining experience.

The pre-theatre menu sounded quite boring but at £17.00 was value for money. Better than£11 for a pizza. However, the food was delicious. I had a warm Tomino cheese with rocket and tomatoes for a starter which was lovely, followed by breaded Chicken and cabbage. How dull does it sound? It was lovely. Very tasty Parmesan breadcrumbs and the cabbage was terrific. We shared a lovely cake for dessert. I'd willingly go again.
Yet again Orso in Covent Garden has lived up to my expectations, I've been coming here for years and will continue to do so. Fantastic.
Orso is a good value, authentic Italian cuisine restaurant. The service was attentive without being obtrusive. Good selection of wine offering reasonable value given its central London location. The surroundings were relaxed and comfortable. The Calves liver was a delinght. I will visit again and recommend to friends..
I'd not been to Orso in Covent Garden for a few years. The atmosphere is still nice and warm and the staff are still slightly aloof. The food itself was good, I had a nice salad starter, which was fresh and well dressed; my main course of risotto was a tad bland, unders-easoned and would have benefited from a whizz of freshly grated parmesan, but none was offered... The flourless chocolate cake was moist and rich. Not memorable, but nice overall.
orso - good food and attentive service with a helpful Maitre d who had some interesting wine recommendations
