The Fence

About The Fence

Slightly tucked away on Cowcross Street but still within a few seconds stroll of Farringdon railway and tube station, The Fence is an unassuming bar and restaurant with a good reputation for its food. Subtly put together to display comfort and class in equal measure, The Fence is suitably modern with plenty of comfy couches and armchairs in which to laze. The interior is all blonde wood, chrome and leather, very much suited to the local after work crowd while outside a surprise terrace allows for lovely al fresco drinking and dining, although get in quick because even on overcast days this space soon fills up with Londoners eager to grab just a glimpse of sun. The cuisine is typical of gastropub style fare, with all of your favourites done well and a few surprises too. Of course The Fence’s bar is well stocked, with a wide selection of wines as well as several beers and the requisite spirits awaiting the Friday night crowd. A Farringdon favourite with plenty to offer.

Visited The Fence with a large group on one of the busiest pre-Christmas nights of the year. Our table was located on the edge of the crowded and lively bar but despite this, the service we received over the course of the evening was excellent. Our group had a wide range of food and the general consensus was that it was of a decent standard. Those looking for a more intimate dining experience might be more critical but the Fence suited us pefectly and a good time was had by all.

Bit of a mix up when we arrived as one waiter seated us, then a few minutes later a waitress told us (quite rudely) that we had to move tables and didn't seem to believe we had made a booking. Aside from that the food was nice, the restaurant is fine, not particularly full of character, quite bland but the food was pretty good.

Had a pleasant meal at The Fence London but a bit noisy and a huge table for 2 of us - probably more suited to larger groups than a quiet catch up with a friend, Food was good and tasty and service perfectly adequate, but I would not make a specific point of returning unless I happened to need somewhere in that location.
