About Paternoster Chop House

Set to the awesome of St Paul’s Cathedral, Paternoster Chop House is an unpretentious restaurant and bar that offers traditional and robust British food in relaxed and modern surroundings.

Head Chef Peter Weeden is an ardent supporter of British produce and collaborates closely, with small food suppliers throughout the British Isles. Peter has forged closes relationships with suppliers such as the Bean family in Helford, Cornwall who supply most of their fish from their 29ft gill netter boat ‘Lady Hamilton’ and Richard Vaughan who supplies their 39 month-old Longhorn beef – or ‘Beast of the Day’ as they like to call it!

The menu itself is the very definition of traditional British recipes including grills and spit roasts, shellfish, savouries and puddings. Dishes include: hand-picked Devon crab salad with melba toast; young grouse, game chips and bread sauce and blackberry apple crumble with custard.

With Paternoster Chop House, the D&D group proudly display their love of all things British. Situated in Paternoster Square, directly behind St Paul's, the interior is modern and unpretentious with simple white walls and grey slate flooring. The sweeping bar is partly made of native oak, while the red and brown seating is upholstered in local leather. Head Chef Peter Weeden's showcases a different cut of steak every Tuesday and his seasonal menu includes dishes like Galloway beef cottage pie and Middle White pig with Bramley apple sauce. The Sunday roast is very popular, with all meat bought on the bone and butchered in-house, and for dessert there are British classics like sticky toffee pudding and Elderflower blancmange.

Had a fantastic fish soup to start, faultless silverside beef for main with shredded saltbeef on the side and utterly divine rice pudding with rhubarb to finish with a glass of wine for the meal deal and it is really great value when you look at the prices for the individual dishes on the menu! Amazed there were not more people there on a Friday night ! My friend had excellent smoked salmon which melted in the mouth and the best shepherd's pie I've ever tasted. Would very highly recommend!!!

The Paternoster Chop House was a pleasant experience, the food was really good and with the two courses for £20 offer it was good value for money. The waiter was good, but was a little unattentive at times.

Paternoster Chop House is conveniently located near St Pauls. Has a nice ambience due to the large open-space building with a visible kitchen. The service was good, although by first impressions each waiter had too many tables to deal with. Our drinks took over 15 minutes to arrive. The food however was prompt, tasty and resonably priced. Ingredients were very impressive by their local sources, especially the Old Spot pork. Would certainly visit again.

As ever with the Paternoster Chophouse, you know what you're gonna get (it's a Conran) & they don't disappoint. If you're a fan of meat or fish, go there, they cook it very well. The £20 for 2 courses/£25 for 3 is good value but watch out for extras such as side dishes, coffee and of course drinks. The total cost was £130 for 3 of us which isn't cheap for lunch but I took my parents there so wanted to splash out. It was a bit noisy for my Dad but generally, they loved it, I loved it, nuff said.
