About The Peasant
Nestled in between Islington and Smithfield markets, The Peasant is a beautifully restored former gin palace that offers great British food in the bar downstairs, and superb fine dining in the restaurant upstairs. A fully-working traditional fireplace and original pub furniture, set against deep red walls and a 17th century mosaic floor, coupled with impeccable service by friendly staff allow The Peasant to provide one of the warmest welcomes of any London pub. Whatever the occasion, The Peasant will guarantee that it is a truly memorable one.

Our trip to the Peasant in Clerkenwell proved something of a disappointment. The Top Table site offered a selection from an a la carte menu which looked tempting, but when we arrived, we found there was only their standard set menu on offer. The food on this was not bad, but not nearly as good as we had been led to expect, and the wine was also ordinary. The service and ambience were good, but altogether we did not feel the Peasant was worth a special visit.
Went to the Peasant on a Thursday evening and although it was very busy the staff serving seemed to have plenty of time for us, we had booked into the restaurant upstairs but a table became available in the bar so we opted to sit there. The bar menu offered a good range of local/traditional foods which all sounded nice and from what we could see looked and smelt good too. Our meals were well presented, good sized portions and tasted lovely. Would recommend and we will be visiting again.
I was very very impressed. Starter, main, and dessert were all sport on and the service was excellent. Will be going back.
The Peasant is a lovely local restaurant above a pub with friendly efficient service. We were served a complimentary vegetarian spring roll for starters which was delicious. Our mains were competent & tasty (chicken & vegetarian option). My dessert of tirimisu was unusually presented but moreish. The raspberry cheesecake was a little bland.
Good hearty food. Upstairs dining room was well decorated, pub downstairs seemed lively, with a reasonable selection of beer
