The French Café

About The French Café

Nous aimons The French Café! Balham just got its own little corner of Paris right on the Ritherdon Road. Marked by a striped awning, patio area and glass frontage The French Café fills one with a sense of calm before you even step through the door. Inside the very Parisian décor is given a wry British twist; tiled walls announcing ‘tea, breakfast, lunch, dinner, coffee’ sit well alongside old French advertising posters and specials scribbled in neat cursive on blackboards. Likewise, whilst during the day The French Café’s lively bustle centres around simple breakfasts – the full English for one – and lunches – traditional steak frites, when evening comes the chicer side takes over as the Totterdown crowd take their seats for the more sophisticated but nonetheless traditional French offerings of boeuf bourguignon and cromesquis of salmon and coquilles St Jacques.

Another excellent meal at the French Cafe. Funnily enough we had lunch there on both Saturday and Sunday because it is soooo good!! And the best value restaurant I've ever been too. Really reasonably priced and yet the food is excellent. Nothing at all disappointed. I can't speak highly enough of the French Cafe.

We came here for dinner on Saturday evening.I had the chicken stuffed with sundried tomatoes and tapenade, which was lovely and juicy. The potatoes it was served with were nice and garlicy, but a bit cold. The service was reasonable, quite friendly but a bit slow at times. Also seeing as they add the service charge on (12.5%) there is not much incentive for the waiters to try hard for a tip.
