Portobello Gold restaurant has been shining gently in London’s hippest area – Notting Hill – for more than twenty years now. Once a Hell’s Angel hangout, It’s a unique establishment that’s a pub, bar, gallery space, restaurant, hotel, live music venue, cream teashop and wireless hotspot and it’s a superb location for a rooftop barbecue, too. Bill Clinton’s eaten here, and Daniel Craig was once a barman - celebs love the low-key welcome. Concentrate your mind on the restaurant for a sec: a tropical conservatory with tiled floor, thriving plants, wicker chairs, wooden tables. Start with chicken liver and pecan nut pate with red onion, then share an amazing seafood platter with your dining partner. The wine list is blinding, with nearly twenty by the glass and Portobello Gold’s children’s/grazing menu must be the best in London. Set menus change with the zodiac months. And if you love it so much you don’t want to go home? No problem. Funky, comfy rooms await you upstairs.

One of those gastric pubs you walk in and where initially its like a lovely old style pub - then your welcomes in by the staff and lead through and transported onto a secret dining area- well it feels that way, out in the conservatory where your booth style table is surrounded by plants to make you feel enclosed. The menu offers a range of food, with the speciality of oysters. If you're lucky you will be served by the the tall guy with the beard and funky moustache, who not only was attentive, but highly amusing along with having an excellent knowledge of the food and wine on offer which allowed us to have an excellent dining experience with fabulous food, toasty wine and Devine desert wine. Our only regret was that our other friends weren't there to have shared the experience, so will have to return!!!
Really enjoyed the food here. I liked the outside/greenhouse seating, a different feel when you're in there! Good service and good value!

The venue and food was great. What let the place down was the waitress. Simple things like repeating the order, and making sure nothing is forgotten were not done and mistakes were made. I can only hope she is new and will get better. Other than that, i will be going back...
Late lunch at Portobello Gold. Food was good and fresh; service also good. Bustling atmosphere. Will return.
