The Princess Victoria

About The Princess Victoria

The winner of countless awards and critical claim, this bijou gastropub in Shepherd’s Bush has everything a food-lover could wish for from a bursting-at-the-seams wine cellar, a walled-in herb garden for summertime al fresco dining, jazz nights and 2 AA rosettes for its modern British menu. A former Victorian gin palace, the Princess Victoria is run by Matt Wilkin – a celebrated sommelier from Adelaide, Australia, and his award-winning British born business partner James McLean who is Head Chef. The restaurant has been lovingly restored with duck-egg blue walls, stunning parquet floors, eclectic antique furniture and ornate stucco sky-lights, and the centerpiece of the restaurant is the antique, 14-seater oak table which is perfect for dinner parties and celebrations.

I'd heard this pub does fantastic Sunday lunches that are incredibly busy, but Saturday was dead! We were the only people in the dining room for most of our meal. Both of us were a little worse for wear from the night before so went for the steak hache which was fine, service was excellent (no other customers mind!), wine was good and liked being able to get a carafe. Not much else on the menu that appealed but perhaps on another day.

The Princess Victoria Shepherds Bush is consistently good. The dining area just adds to the ambience The fish platter makes for a lovely sharing experience. Don't forget to order the triple cooked chips.

Been a while since I dined at Princess Victoria in Shep Bush and something seemed to be missing. Food not quite the usual zing, portion for dessert ridiculously small even allowing for the warning on the menu, but wine list remains an attractive feature as is the service and the room.

Princess Victoria is really grand and stunning as a venue.I had an excellent potted crab for starter followed by pork belly which was also very good. My boyfriend's medium rare steak arrived well done - but when we told the waiter he immediately took it away and very quickly brought another which was perfect. The staff are all very friendly and helpful - they added a few extra items to our bill by accident but were very apologetic when we told them.Despi those two hiccups I'd still recommend.
