The Gate
About The Gate
Situated only minutes from Alexandra Palace in London’s Wood Green, The Gate combines traditional pub with modern bar and restaurant to great effect. Particularly popular with locals, The Gate has an easy, laid back atmosphere well suite to those after work drinks, lazy Sunday lunches and thank-goodness-it’s-Friday moments. While the exterior of The Gate suggests a traditional Victorian boozer, within you’ll find a bright, airy Italian pizzeria right down to red and white checked tablecloths and summertime al fresco terrace. While pizza is closest to the heart of The Gate’s chefs – the menu features a strong selection of authentic style stone baked pizzas – there’s also a whole host of other choices, from delicious hamburgers to sharing platters and salads. The drinks list meanwhile ranges from continental bottled lagers to fine wines and classic and contemporary cocktails. With a chilled, eclectic music policy and bar-restaurant set up, The Gate is a perfect all-night venue.

Unfortunately when we arrived at The Gate (Alexandra Palace, London), the football was on and the pub was very busy. They may have reserved us a table, but if they had, it had been taken over by others so there wasn't a table big enough available. Unfortunately on ordering, they didn't have any of the food we wanted to order too. Not a great night out and we wouldn't rush back.
Had a noisy meal at The Gate (Alexandra Palace, London). Unfortunately there was a football match on, and there are TV's throughout the pub, including in the restaurant area, so the whole pub was very very noisy. The restaurant area was a little cramped (probably due to the football fans) and a bit dark. The pizzas were good though, and the inferno definitely lived up to it's name. The menu is very varied so there's lots to choose between.
The Gate has appalling bar service, I waited nearly 10 minutes at an empty bar before one of the bar man realised I was standing there. Its always the same, they seem to employee bored students, no charisma. However we continue to go back for the pizza's, they are amazing, go on a Tuesday for the 2for1 deal. The lady serving our pizza's was polite and helpful. Barmen: Get your act together!
We booked The Gate in Wood Green. the booking was confirmed but they did not have our reservation. We left without eating. staff were too busy to care. They blamed TT, but they could have handled the situation better too. Would not recommend or go back.
Great place. Great food!
