In a rather unlikely position at the Archway end of north London’s Holloway Road, 500 Restaurant offers an oasis in the form of a neighbourhood Italian restaurant with fabulous food. Like its namesake (the Fiat Cinquecento, or 500), the dining room is compact; that, combined with charming service from Italian staff, give the place a welcoming feel and buzzy atmosphere. As good as the service is, though, the real drawcard here is the food – it’s authentic, rustic Italian food, and it’s all great value. In terms of starters, the star of the show is the tagliere 500 (serves two) – a wooden board heaped with a bounty of cold meats and olives, plus small portions of all the other starters. The pasta here is sublime, with light, springy gnocchi with fennel and sausage being a highlight, though heartier mains like slow cooked rabbit are perfect for cold winter nights. The extensive wine list is mostly Italian, and prices start at a very reasonable £13.

very nice food - could have been more variety for vegetarians though but really lovely food and the fresh bread was amazing!
Still one of our favourite restaurants in London. It was full on a rainy mid-week evening and you still have to book a week in advance for a weekend table. The food was as good as ever , staff are friendly and don't rush you from your table, and it is excellent value for money. Don't miss their legendary antipasti platter to start. Can't recommend it highly enough.
Possible the only Italian restaurant in London where Italians would agree that it's Italian food. 2nd time i've been. Went for the cold meat board again. The pasta with slow cook beef was fantastic. Book for 6:30pm to get a table and service. They have only 2 waiters there, once it gets crowded, the chef starts coming out to serve food.
Had a lovely evening at my local Italian restaurant which we are so lucky to have in Archway. Started with the amazing Tagliere 500, a mix of cold meats, cheeses and other cold starters. The plate advised for 2 fed 5 hungry ladies very well and all disappeared except the swordfish which we were not that keen on. We all opted for pasta mains - the freshness of the pasta was wonderful. Still had room for delicious puddings - my blood orange sorbet the perfect end to the meal.
We had another lovely meal at 500, Archway, on Easter Saturday night. Risotto, beef and Sea bass were all nicely cooked and well presented. Great to have somewhere like this just a few minutes walk from home. We'll be back again soon
