Hop & Spice

About Hop & Spice

When the going gets tough, the tough need to chill out with a cold beer and a delicious curry. Hop and Spice in Balham, London, is the perfect place to share superb Sri Lankan cuisine with friends and family, and the curry-house-come-disco interior with golden Buddha statues and kooky lamps is a fun place to forget all about the hustle and bustle of big city living. Restaurateur Bahi Sivalingam has devised a clever sharing-style Thali menu alongside classic curries like the Kerralan chicken simmered with roasted spices, coconut cream and fresh coriander. Hop and Spice has a brilliant beer menu, and we love the Kandy Mess – a traditional Eton Mess with a passion fruit and mango twist.

Delicious food and an interesting selection of (quite expensive) beers. Sharing around 10 small dishes and some rice between four of us worked well; it was refreshing to go out for a curry and come away having had such a varied meal. Would definitely go back.

Went to Hop & Spice for a casual Fri dinner. Choice and range and beers/ales was great, but food didn't live up to expectations. Everything was okay, but nothing particualarly stood out.

hop and spice. Lots of little dishes of curry to share between us all. All tasted like they were made properly (ie meat actually cooked in the sauce rather than adding generic chicken to a premade sauce). 15 tried between us, all nice. 3 curries per person (mix of meat/fish/veg) was about right with some rice on the side, (we didnt have starters and couldnt manage desert) They gave us a glass of bubly on the house as it was NYE which was a nice touch.
