  • Challenging the Paradigm: Polish Urban Development in the 21st Century

    Lecture

    27 Jan 2010 to 27 Jan 2010

An exhibition and talks programme outlining Polish Urban Development in the 21st Century

  • London Festival of Architecture 2010

    Lecture

    19 Jun 2010 to 4 Jul 2010

This event will focus on the theme of The Welcoming City, highlighting how cities can become increasingly amenable, tolerant and engaging. The theme also responds to the Olympic 2012 slogan that 'London welcomes the world'. The focus areas are the regeneration projects that have the potential to attract visitors and reclaim a city back from the automobile; the areas are Nash Ramblas around Portland Place, High Street 2012 around Whitechapel and Bankside Urban Forest on Southbank.

  • Polish Avant Garde Architecture and Architectural Publishing, 1920-1940

    Exhibition

    7 Oct 2009 to 25 Nov 2009

A display that explores Polish constructivist architecture, a style closely linked with avant garde movements elsewhere in Europe. In the 1920s progressive artists and architects advocated modernist architecture, better-designed social housing and a closer relationship between architecture and other arts. Their publications, distinct for their vigorous, imaginative typography and layout, promulgated new ideas about modern living.

  • Renoma: Reflections of Wroclaw

    Special event

    16 Oct 2009 to 30 Jan 2010

This exhibition maps the turbulent history and changing face of Wroclaw by telling the story of RENOMA. Designed in 1930 by modernist architect Hermann Dernburg for the Wertheim family as one of the largest, truly international retail stores, its original concept was shortlived. After years of neglect, it reopened in April 2009 with a carefully restored façade and a new wing designed by Mackow Architects in collaboration with Arup. The exhibition also features collage artist Jan Dziaczkowski and photographer Marcin Czechowicz.
