Cafe Spice Namaste

About Cafe Spice Namaste

Tucked away on the outskirts of the City, Café Spice Namaste continues to impress London’s Indian food fans. Housed in a 19th century former courthouse, the décor is an exotic mix of sumptuous fabrics and vibrant jewel colours. Chef-patron Cyrus Todiwala is passionate about authentic ingredients and recipes, including traditional Parsee dishes, so the menu is a far cry from the standard curry house fare. Diners can feast on familiar favourites like Goan prawn curry and chicken tikka makhkani, or opt for something more adventurous like the delicious ostrich bhuna. In the warmer months, why not dine al fresco in the Café Spice Ginger Garden? With its mosaic bar and tropical plants, it’s a perfect setting for a pre-dinner cocktail.

Have enjoyed Café Spice for years. Much prefer it to the offerings on Brick Lane north of them. We both had the set menus, me the £30 and my partner the £40 one. Warning that the £40 set menu is a lot of food - your first clue will be the 5 forks and 5 knives they set out for you. Even my 'big eater' partner found it too much. Lamb was disappointing - seemed a rather poor cut of meat and fatty. But the rest of the meal was lovely, especially the prawns. Service was also very attentive.

Not the first time to Café Spice Namaste, but it was as good as usual - I went for two different dishes this time: a delicious and spicy pheasant Indian tapas dish, then Keralan Crab Curry, which I'd recommend to anyone. My friend, Dave, had the Duck Tikka which I'll be going for next time - tender and super-tasty without blowing your head off. All in all, a fabulous meal washed down with a good Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc. BOSH!

3 years since my last visit but pleased to say the experience was just as good. Yes it's expensive so one for special occsions but quality of food and presentation makes it good value.

Starters were excellent, pickle tray way better than the norm but a chicken makhani was lacking in spice. I feel the main dishes are quite overpriced .

Second visit to Cafe Spice Namaste in Aldgate - excellent food with a good variety of menu choices that you do not see on many Indian restaurant menus. Would recommend - tandoori selection platter was excellent.
