Reviewed by: Visit London
There are three freshwater swimming pools on Hampstead Heath, 1 pond for mixed swimming and separate ponds for male and female swimmers. Highgate Ponds are surrounded by green slopes the ponds offer peaceful shady areas. They attract thousands of swimmers each summer, and even a few brave souls throughout winter! The waters are deep and children under 8 are not permitted to use the ponds and under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

A wonderful day out

Plan a picnic and spend an afternoon on the heath if you can - or if you are nearby, a walk through the heath every morning is such a pleasure. Kenwood House on the heath is also worth a visit.

On my 3rd trip to London, I finally got to go & walk around Hampstead Heath. What a hidden jewel! The town is very charming & nice for strolling about at a leisurely pace--something you can't usually do on a busy London street. And the Heath itself is a revelation--like a bit of the countryside brought to the city. Get your comfy shoes out for a nature stroll! Everyone was out & about with their dogs & some were fishing in the duck pond--it was very relaxed & sunny. And so pretty! If you need a bit of a break from the hectic pace of London, I definitely recommend going here.
