Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Rooms

About Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Rooms

If you’re tired of the formulaic gastropub, take a meal at Maida Vale’s Prince Albert and Formosa Dining Rooms. Breaking out of the mould, the Prince Alfred has remained true to its original Victorian roots, with tiny snugs in which to enjoy an intimate pint and an atmospheric, storybook feel. Through to the dining room you’ll find an altogether less Dickensian proposition, thoroughly contemporary from steel beams to slick service the restaurant is always buzzing with locals and visitors packing out tables each evening. The traditionally British menu, with hints of European flavour, is well executed – dishes simply served with uncomplicated sauces and side orders.

The Prince Alfred in Maida Vale has a great atmosphere and the menu is enticing. I like that the menu has a seasonal section as well as the regular menu. The wine we chose was not available, however the waiter did explain that the wine list is about to be changed and offered some alternatives. Our group ordered the lamb, the pork sausages, the chicken ballotine and the rump steak and everyone was happy with their meals.

a little noisy, but good atmosphere. Great food, lovely menu, very willing and obliging waiter. A good find.

This was the first time i had eaten in the Prince Alfred and it was pretty nice. The service was friendly, but a little on the slow side. We had to wait a long time for our wine to be brought out, i suspect it was forgotten but the lady serving us was friendly and apologised. The food was tasty - a little on the steep side, but to be expected in Maida Vale.

We enjoyed our Sunday lunch at Prince Alfred & Formosa Dining Rooms. My husband and I had the rack of lamb for 2 which was delicious. Grandson had the roast beef served in a Yorkshire Pudding. Only complaint was the pea soup that wasn't smooth and was like eating mushy peas. Nice meal and good service.
