Watch those stairs when emerging from the cave-like darkness that is Gordon’s into the bright light that is reality. An afternoon spent in this cellar bar accompanied by port, wine and cheese can’t be beaten but trying to find a seat in here can. If you fail, take your bottle and cheese platter into the Embankment Gardens in summer (don’t tell the landlord) or make damn sure you arrive early. Come 6pm the city boys arrive and fill the place with expense accounts, leggy secretaries and hearty guffaws.
