Toptable says about Quality Chop House
Original Victorian decor and strong un-mucked-about British cooking (both modern and traditional) have earned the Quality Chop House high standing in the capital and a loyal clientele. From jellied eels to caviar, from egg, bacon and chips to grilled lobster, the QCH suits most tastes and wallets. Favourites are salmon fishcake with sorrel sauce and lamb chops. Ambience is informal and relaxed, and the bar is friendly, as befits the self-proclaimed progressive working class caterer.

The Quality Chop House continues to provide delicious and seasonal produce in a relaxed and friendly environment, but on this occasion I was stung by the specials: with all the mains on the menu priced at £11, the waiter might have thought to warn me that the sea bass special (his recommendation) was £22. The toilets are also extraordinary: lockers now block all but one lavatory, which is less than fragrant as a result of over use. Still, I would always recommend this delicious joint.
We loved the food and will go back again. However, despite being one of only two groups early on a Sunday night, the waitress forgot my friend's request to have sauce on the side and we never got two of the four side dishes we ordered.
really enjoyed the heartly english fare, and the portions were very generous!
disliked the very uncomfortable benches - need new seats.
We took a guest visting from America and he was thrilled with the whole thing. All the food was delicious and traditional English and the original interior has a warm and cosy atmosphere. The banquet seating was rather slim and quite uncomfortable but this didn't spoil our enjoyment. It was slightly more expensive than I had expected partly due to the fact that we were charged £17 for the 2 extra glasses of Pinot Noir which had cost £25 for the initial bottle.
I would definitely go back to the Quality Chop House. The food was excellent, the service was a bit slow, but it was lunchtime, so very busy. Being just down the road from Smithfield, the meat was really fresh, and reasonable value too.
