With all the cosy comfort and charming vibe of the best of public houses, the Walmer Castle nonetheless throws itself whole heartedly in to creating a believably Eastern setting, complete with dimmed lighting, glamorous touches of gold and richly patterned wall coverings. The result is part glam boutique resort restaurant, part eccentric colonialism. Both a bar menu, on which you’ll discover great light Asian options and hearty British dishes, and a full a la carte complete with banquet and tasting choices, are available to choose from, the focus very firmly on exploring Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian flavours in traditional recipes made using wholly authentic ingredients. When it comes to drinks, not only does the Walmer Castle have the best of pub picks but a very well thought out wine list rarely seen in either pubs or Asian restaurants.
